- Peaches are one of the easier to grow plants we offer here at QCTropicals. Once established, they are low maintanance and hard to kill! (unless you try hard). We offer several low chill varieties. The main issue you will have growing peaches will be the birds!.
- Peach Tree Growing Tips:
- Best time to plant: Anytime of the year. If bareroot, during the winter/early spring only.
- Sun: Full sun anywhere in the U.S. It doesn't grow well in the shade.
- Winter: Most varieties do not require any protection in the winter.
- Root system: Tap root.
- Growth structure: Naturally a shrub unless pruned otherwise.
- Fruiting: Most varieties will flower early spring and fruits ripen early to mid summer.
- Pollination: Self-fertile, only 1 is needed to get fruit.
- Watering: Shallow water first season in ground. As the tree gets older, deep water. Stop watering when it drops its leaves during the winter.
- Fertilization: In containers, any slow release fertilizer will work. In ground, compost and mulch is all you will ever need. No special fertilizers needed.
- Container Grown: Due to its root system, this plant doesn't grow well in a container long term. We recommend you to plant in the ground rather than growing it in a container.
- Personal Growing Tip: Once you plant this tree in ground, no top growth is normal until the tree roots in ground fully. The rooting process can take 1 year+ depending on your local night temperatures. Hot=It Grows faster, Cold=It grows slower.
