- Grape vines take full sun and require no winter protection. Once established they grow like a weed and even give you tons of grapes. What more could you want from a plant?.
- Grape Vine growing tips:
- Best time to plant: Anytime!
- Sun: Full sun
- Winter Care:No protection required, Deciduous. Flowers are frost sensitive.
- Growth Structure: Naturally a vine. It does require something to attach to like a trellis.
- Root system: Shallow, fibrous roots.
- Pollination: Self-pollinating
- Flowers/Fruits: Grape vines flower early spring and fruits ripen sometime in the summer. Flowers are frost sensitive so cover your plant if your area experiences late frosts.
- Watering: In containers, follow our 50% rule (wait until 50% of the container to dry in between watering). In ground, first season, water shallow and frequently. Stick your finger in the rootball and allow to dry about 6-12" in between watering. Once the tree has been in the ground 1 year+, you will need to deep water. Slow and long watering, but less often.
- Fertilization: In pots, use any slow release fertilizer. In ground, plain compost, mulch is all you need.
- Container growing: Not recommend for long term container growing due to its vigorous roots.
- Personal growing tip: Allow plant to establish itself in ground for at least 1 year. Once fully rooted in ground, it will grow several feet per year.
